Bon Vivant Egg Holder

Inspiration
The design is inspired by the flux created by the peacock’s feather when it shows off. The reason to use the peacock’s feather as an inspiration is due to the book, The Great Gatsby, which is set in 1922 when Art Deco is one of the leading styles. The peacock is a decorative lexicon of Art Deco and a symbol of wealth and vanity.

Function
A hole is created in the design of the peacock’s feather to hold an egg. The hole is slightly propped up during bending to hold the egg more snugly. The convexity holds the egg while the countering concavity gives stability to the structure and allows one to use the space as a holder for a spoon or breadsticks when eating breakfast.

Production (trails & errors)
A mould is initially made to create the curvature of the egg holder but the dynamism resulting from it is less than that of using two cones of differing diameters. A leather version is made too initially but the flexibility of the material creates large gaps in the resultant model. The ends of the container are sharp and require multiple times of gluing to be held properly.

Originality or uniqueness
Unlike other egg holders that are currently sold on the market, the design of the Bon Vivant Egg Holder is unique as it is shaped as a peacock feather. Moreover, it gives the user freedom in putting other items in the holder (apart from the egg) due to the space created by the concavity of the design.
